Proven Judicial Experience

As a hearing officer for the Family Court Masters’ Unit, I presided over a courtroom, swore in and listened to witnesses testify, judged credibility, and wrote extensive reports outlining my opinions, based on the facts and the law applicable, in resolution of the case presented. I made legal recommendations for custody disputes, child and spousal support matters, and the distribution of assets in divorce cases. I always first tried to help parties mediate their disputes. When that was not possible, I made the decision and rendered judgment.

Protector of Children from Abuse

Chester County was one of the first two child abuse units in the state.  Our unit became a prototype for Child Abuse Units across the Commonwealth. I am very proud of the work that the unit did then and what they have become now, which is a formidable voice for those who don’t have one.

Expert in Family Law

In 2009, I went into private practice representing men and women in matters of family law. I have been appointed by the court as guardian ad litem representing the best interest of children, as a parenting coordinator who helps parents resolve disputes in high conflict custody cases, and as an arbitrator and as a mediator. I take the old label of “attorney and counselor at law” seriously as I believe I have an obligation to help my clients come to a resolution that is fair and just to all the parties.

Why Alita?

Experience matters.  I believe that a good judge must possess impeccable personal integrity, a love of service, and the background to apply the law with fairness and respect. My professional experiences, as an attorney and judicially, as a hearing officer, have uniquely prepared me to serve as a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas.

As a young adult, I experienced a traumatic loss; I was given the compassion and support that I needed.  My experience taught me resilience, forward thinking, and made me stronger.  It has given me the ability to look beyond the single event or moment in time that brings someone into a courtroom and be able to consider an individual’s whole life.  My experience has given me the compassion and perspective to render a judgement that is fair for all.

Chester County is my home, where I have lived and raised my daughters for the past 33 years. I have been in-house counsel, an Assistant District Attorney and run a private practice specializing in family law.

I also spent 15 years behind the bench as a Family Court hearing officer. In that role, I presided over court cases, heard witnesses testify, ruled on objections, and rendered decisions. Having already acted in a judicial capacity, I am ready to go on day one.

Outside of the courtroom, serving others has guided my life, working with young women in the Girl Scouts for seven years, coaching high school and college students in Mock Trial, serving on the board of the Crime Victim’s Center, and teaching religious education. My goal is, and always has been, to make Chester County the best place it can be.

I believe that my personal and professional experiences, my life learned compassion and my demonstrated ability to be fair make me uniquely qualified, as I am the only candidate with actual judicial experience.  If elected, I will be exceptionally well prepared and proud to serve my community as a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas.

Alita’s Endorsements

Tim Kearney

PA State Senator for District 26

I proudly endorse Alita Rovito for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. Alita has spent her career protecting families and children—the most vulnerable in our community. Alita was the first managing attorney of the Chester County Child Abuse Unit; which became the prototype for child abuse units throughout the state. She has been appointed by the court as guardian ad litem representing the best interest of children, and as a parenting coordinator helping parents resolve disputes in high conflict custody cases. She is a faithful advocate for those who are unable to speak for themselves. Chester County children and families need Alita Rovito as a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas.

John Kane

PA State Senator for District 9

I am proud to endorse Alita Rovito for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. To Alita, family is everything. She grew up in a large family with five siblings. Her mom was a teacher. Alita lost her mother and older sister at a young age. That loss made a huge impact on Alita’s life and her career path as an attorney who is dedicated to families and children. Chester County families need someone on the bench who is rooting for them. They have that person in Alita Rovito.

Kristine Howard

PA State Representative for the 167th

I highly endorse Alita Rovito for Judge on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas. Through my own work as a child advocate, and as a caseworker for Chester County Children Youth and Families and through personal experience, I see the importance of a fair judiciary that prioritizes the needs and interests of women, children, and members of disadvantaged populations. As a member of the State Legislature who currently sits on the Children and Youth Committee and an appointee to the Juvenile Justice Task Force, the need for attention to a fairer justice system has become even more apparent.

Melissa Shusterman

PA State Representative for the 157th

I wholeheartedly endorse Alita Rovito for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. Alita has not only the established judicial experience, but also the compassion and empathy to be a wonderful judge for Chester County. Whether for a victim, a witness, a family member, or a defendant, judges need the empathy to see beyond actions to the emotions and motivations as to why people do what they do. Judges must understand suffering and be an instrument of healing and resolution. Alita Rovito’s professional and life experiences make her have this deep level of empathy. Alita is the ideal judicial candidate.

Marian Moskowitz

Chester County Commissioner

Alita Rovito will bring proven judicial experience to the Chester County Court of Common Pleas; her 15 years managing a courtroom as a hearing court officer for Chester County Family court will make her an exceptional judge. Alita has the necessary compassion and fairness to serve all Chester County residents equally. As the only woman running for this court, she brings an important perspective and balance to the bench. I’m proud to stand with Alita in her bid for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas.

Josh Maxwell

Chester County Commissioner

It is my great pleasure to endorse Alita Rovito for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. Alita is a tremendous candidate for the bench and her exemplary experience stands out as a candidate. There are thirteen sitting judges with two vacancies on the court—only four of those thirteen judges are Democrats. In order to balance the bench’s perspective, we must elect more qualified Democrats, namely Alita Rovito, who is going to bring compassion, fairness, and equality to Chester County residents as a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas.

Fredda Maddox

Chester County Sheriff

It is with great pleasure that I endorse my friend and mentor, Alita Rovito, for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. I first met Alita when she was an Assistant District Attorney in Chester County, and I was a state trooper at the Avondale barracks. We met again during my time as an attorney for victims of domestic violence. In the courtroom, I witnessed firsthand Alita’s compassion for her clients and her integrity for the system of law. Alita demonstrates an incomparable depth of knowledge of the law and victims’ trauma. As a Family Court Hearing Officer, Alita’s role was to perform the duties of a judge. She is the only candidate with this type of judicial experience. This coupled with Alita’s understanding of how to get victims treatment and help, makes Alita the best candidate for Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. Alita’s broad knowledge of the law made me seek her out as a mentor. In 2015, I became part of Alita’s private practice. Alita is a forward thinker; her goal is to help her clients live toward their best futures without getting mired in the emotion and anger of their current situations. Alita is a tireless advocate; her ultimate goal is always for a fair outcome for her clients. Alita will bring that same tireless energy and work ethic to the bench. All of Chester County will benefit from Alita becoming a judge. It is without reservation that I endorse Alita Rovito for the position of Judge on the Court of Common Pleas.

Alita is uniquely qualified for the bench with over 15 years of experience as a Family Court Hearing Officer, as a past prosecutor for the District Attorney’s office, and as an accomplished family law attorney with her own private practice. Her dedication to the law and her compassion and strong sense of justice make her an ideal candidate. Her commitment to preserve those legal rights we Democrats hold so dearly is beyond question. Furthermore, as an experienced family law attorney and Family Court Hearing Officer, she stands out as ready in her ability to immediately serve as our next Family Court Judge, without delay, to address the ever growing backlog of cases our local judicial system faces. Please join me in my support for Alita as one of our endorsed candidates for the Court of Common Pleas. Thank you.
